A three zone outdoor area WITH FIRE PIT & ROOM.
ZONE 1
Grey limestone ground level patio for the main dining. This has a designated barbeque area built off it so no prevailing winds blows smoke towards seating area. A contemporary water feature using the letter box effect was built on a natural limestone which flows into a beach pebble base. This creates the sound of moving water throughout whole the patio area. Also the sound of the mature black bamboos tussling in the wind gives a nice calm feel to this zone.
ZONE 2
Domestic area. A storage area for garden furniture and a shed was built in this zone. The shed is used for storing the ride on mower, drying cloths and storing fuel.
ZONE 3
Outdoor snug with fire pit. This is a round structure so everything in it is circular from the table to the seating to the curved walls. Natural grey sand stone was used for the floor, table top and seating. The roof is wrapped in a 3mm stainless steel flashing to tie in with the other stainless steel fittings. Both Sky and Saorview TV points were installed in snug. A fire pit was built in the centre of the round table. By building the snug in a semi-circle shape it contains the heat from the fire pit making it nice and cosy at night. The snug is south facing and sheltered from the west prevailing winds so a cosier environment is created for day time use. A low maintenance planting scheme was used in this project.
This outdoor area comes to life at night. The outdoor lighting from the water feature to the snug and the
natural light from the fires flames creates a great party environment. This outdoor area needs very little
annual maintenance.

A three zone outdoor area split into two levels.
ZONE 1
This is the upper level patio for dining. A natural grey sandstone was used in this area. This links onto the kids play area so a sand pit was built into the paving so that the kids could be viewed from the house. A raised bed was built alongside the sand pit with dwarf bamboos planted in it. This provides shelter to the sand pit. This zone has three sets of sand stone steps leading down onto the garden and the lower paved area. This area was raised to maximise the views of the nearby lake.
ZONE 2
Lower paved area. A natural black limestone was used in this area to help contain the heat better on sunny days. A feature wall and four raised beds surround this zone. An outdoor fire place was built and faced using a mix colour of Donegal quartzite stone. A Mediterranean style chimney cap was built as a feature rather than building a standard chimney. The option for a canopy can be pulled out from over the stone on the feature wall. There is also a ramp leading out from this sunken patio for wheel chair access. The ramp and all steps are lit up at night using wall spot lights. A low maintenance planting scheme was used.
ZONE 3
Kids play area is built on the ground level and is mulched with a round pebble. A swing is permanently set into position.
This area was designed and built with keeping a busy family life in mind. The area becomes another room from the house with the kids using it during the day and parents using it in the evenings. This outdoor area needs very little annual maintenance. This outdoor area involves specialised high end workmanship. ZONE 1
A ground level natural grey sandstone patio for dining.
ZONE 2
Upper deck level built with black polyethylene decking boards with a double row of beech hedging planted around the deck. This is a lifetime deck built on a concrete base that withstands the Irish climate without little or no maintenance. There are three Grasses planted alongside the deck with a beach pebble base. This area has the option of building an overhead canopy in the future.
ZONE 3
This area has a large hardwood timber pergola with a built in stone table and stone seating area for evening/night time entertaining. The table has a built in fire pit to keep you warm in the cool evenings. The pergola is wrapped in a double row of beech hedging to create a more sheltered private zone. A raised herb bed connecting the pergola to the barbeque area will soften the timber structure giving you the option to plant climbers on the pergola. All timber used is pressure treated certified.
This area was designed and built close to nature to give a natural relaxing feel to it. Once the beech hedging around the timber pergola and the decking area matures a more court yard effect will be created. This outdoor area needs very little annual maintenance.

Four zone outdoor area split into three levels.
ZONE 1
Grey limestone ground level patio for dining. The two raised beds act as a doorway to lead you from the house to the sunken snug. A 3 in 1 ground level fire pit is located beside the dining area which can be viewed from all zones.
ZONE 2
Upper black polyethylene decking area for mid-day sun. This is a lifetime deck that withstands the Irish climate with little or no maintenance. Mature black bamboos are planted alongside the deck to act as a wind breaker. Also, by raising this deck area it gives the snug a more sunken feel to it.
ZONE 3
The sunken snug has a bright white granite paved floor with a permanent table and seating to match the upper deck. A low pitched zinc roof was used so that no views from the house were obscured. The snug is mainly used for evening/night time entertaining. The sunken snug comes to life at night as the lighting shows off the natural stone.
By dropping the ground level in the snug and wrapping the walls around in a U shape it created more shelter and a cosier environment. This area is also great for kid’s parties and family time. A low maintenance planting scheme was used in this project.
ZONE 4
Kids play area is mulched with a low maintenance round pebble. The play tower can be viewed from the house and patio area.
The combination of the fire pits dancing flames, warm lighting and the sound of the bamboo tussling in the wind will create a very formal, contemporary, stylish, and practical outdoor area. This outdoor area needs very little annual maintenance.
